Maine Specialty IPA Adds New Groups

Maine Specialty IPA recently announced the addition of three new groups to its membership - Allergy & Asthma Associates of Maine, Eyecare Medical Group, and Maine Center for Cancer Medicine.  On January 19, 2011 the Maine Specialty IPA was formed with founding members Chest Medicine Associates (CMA), Portland Gastroenterology Associates (PGA), OA Centers for Orthopaedics (OA), and Spectrum Medical Group (SMG).  Click here to view press release.


Bangor Metro Names Two Spectrum Physicians to Best Doctors List 2011

Bangor Metro Magazine recently named two Spectrum physicians, David Clement, MD - Northern Anesthesiology Division, and Mark Piccirillo, MD - Northern Radiology Division, to their Best Doctors List 2011.

New Faces at Spectrum Medical Group

We are pleased to announce the addition of two new physicians to Spectrum Medical Group.

 

Jennifer Thompson, MD is a recent addition to the Southern Anesthesiology Division following fellowship training in pediatric anesthesiology at Boston Children's Hospital.  Dr. Thompson graduated from Columbia College of Physicians and Surgeons and completed her residency in anesthesiology at Brigham & Women's Hospital in Boston.

 

 

Peggy Rouleau, MD, joins the Northern Radiology Division.  Dr. Rouleau obtained her medical degree from Duke University School of Medicine and completed her diagnostic radiology training as well as fellowhip training in musculoskeletal radiology at Mayo Graduate School of Medicine.

 

 

The Southern Anesthesiology Division extends a warm welcome to Danielle Currier, PA-C, who joined us on November 7th.  Danielle obtained her undergraduate education at the University of Pennsylvania and completed her PA training at Duke University.  She comes to Spectrum from Central Maine Medical Cehter where she was employed as a Trauma and General Surgery Physician Assistant.  Danielle will be working with our anesthesiologists at Mercy Hospital.

 

 


 

Spectrum Medical Group Welcomes Daniel G. Kloda, DO 

 

We welcomed Daniel Kloda, DO to the Southern Radiology Division in October, 2011.  He graduated from the University of New England College of Osteopathic Medicine and completed his Diagnostic Radiology Residency training at Maine Medical Center.  Dr. Kloda continued fellowship training at the Medical University of South Carolina in Interventional Radiology and Nuclear Medicine.  His special clinical areas of interest include peripheral arterial disease, endovascular treatment of aortic aneurysm, interventional oncology, and biliary and GU procedures.

 

 

 


 

 

Ian Bristol, MD Featured on WCSH-6 TV

Dr. Ian Bristol, Spectrum Radiation Oncologist, was recently interviewed by Vivien Leigh of WCSH News to explain a cutting edge, radiation therapy treatment he provides called Stereotactic Body Radiation Therapy (SBRT).  The treatment is performed on patients diagnosed with Stage I Lung Cancer.  Click on the link below to see the SBRT segment in its entirety:

Spectrum Medical Group Celebrates 15 Years

Spectrum Medical Group was formed in 1996 as a result of a merger among Northeast Anesthesia Professional Association, Maine Pathology Associates, and Radiology Associates of Maine.  Fifteen years later, Spectrum continues to maintain a strong private practice physician culture in the State of Maine.

On September 18, 2011 over 150 Spectrum physicians, employees, and families gathered at the Samoset Resort under bright, sunny skies to celebrate Spectrum's 15th year.  Guests enjoyed a Down East Lobster Bake and entertaining music was provided by The Way Outs, a band which includes two of Spectrum's very own physicians!

    

   

    


Timothy Collins, MD Joins Spectrum Pathology

 

Spectrum Pathology extends a warm welcome to Timothy P. Collins, MD, FCAP.  Dr. Collins is a graduate of Georgetown University School of Medicine and completed a Family Practice Residency at Eastern Maine Medical Center.  He also completed Pathology Residency Training at the Naval Medical Center in Portsmouth, VA followed by Fellowship Training in Hematopathology at Duke University Medical Center.  Dr. Collins has been appointed Chief of Pathology and Laboratory Services at St. Mary's Regional Medical Center, relieving Robert Christman, MD as Interim Chief at the hospital. 

 

 

 


New Chiefs Named at Northern Radiology Sites of Service

David Warner, MD was recently named Chief of Radiology at Mayo Regional Hospital and CA Dean Memorial Hospital.  Joshua Sherwin, MD was named Chief of Radiology at Penobscot Valley Hospital.  Drs. Warner and Sherwin replace Mark Piccirillo, MD who served as chief of service for many years at all three hospitals. 


David Andrews, MD Appointed to Board of Licensure in Medicine

Spectrum Medical Group recently received notification from the Office of the Governor appointing David Andrews, MD, Southern Anesthesiology Division, to the State of Maine's Board of Licensure in Medicine.  Thank you, Dr. Andrews, for your contribution to the State of Maine as well as your willingness to serve on the team to accomplish challenging tasks ahead.

On Sunday, July 31st, families and friends cheered on the Spectrum Tri Team as they participated in Maine Cancer Foundation's Tri for a Cure at Southern Maine Community College.  The race consisted of a third-mile swim, 14.6 mile bike ride, finishing up with a 3.1 mile run.  Participants in the triathlon raised over $1.1 million for cancer research for the Maine Cancer Foundation.

Gary Palman, DO, Recipient of Roswell P. Bates, DO Public Service Award by Maine Osteopathic Association

 

Dr. Gary Palman, an anesthesiologist for the Southern Anesthesiology Division, recently received the Roswell P. Bates, DO Public Service Award for his outstanding achievements in public health and community service that enhances and demonstrates the Osteopathic profession's commitment to service above and beyond that of direct patient care.  Shown in photo at left is Joel Kase, DO, MPH, immediate past president of the MOA, Dr. Palman's wife, Mary, and Dr. Palman.

Spectrum Trek Team Rides 180 Miles for American Lung Association

Over the weekend of June 17-19, the Spectrum Medical Group Trek Team, nearly 30 members strong, completed the three-day, 180 mile bike ride from Sunday River to Belfast.  The team raised over $19,000 to benefit the American Lung Association.  Next year's goal for team membership has been raised to 60 members!  Due to the size of this year's team, the group was eligible for a tent in the Trek's Team Tent City at Colby College where team members gathered after their second day of riding.  See Team Tent City photos below.

Spectrum Medical Group Announces Partnership with St. Mary's Health System

Partnership will help continue high quality and bring enhanced pathology services to the Lewiston/Auburn communities.

South Portland, ME - March 21, 2011 - Spectrum Medical Group - a physician-owned, multi-specialty practice with over 150 board-certified physicians - announced today that it has established a partnership with St. Mary's Regional Medical Center in Lewiston to provide the hospital with pathology services.

Welcome Dr. John Kustan

The Southern Radiology Division extends a warm welcome to John A Kustan, MD.  Dr. Kustan graduated from Temple University School of Medicine.  He completed his Diagnostic Radiology Residency at Saint Barnabas Medical Center in Livingston, New Jersey.  This was followed by a Cross-Sectional Imaging / Orthopedic, MRI Fellowship at Boston University Medical Center.  Dr. Kustan will be primarily assigned to Memorial Hospital in North Conway, NH.

 


Specialist Physician Groups Form Maine's First Independent Practice Association (IPA)

On January 19, 2011 four of the area's most prestigious specialty medical groups announced the formation of an Independent Practice Association (IPA).  Chest Medicine Associates (CMA), Portland Gastroenterology Associates (PGA), OA Centers for Orthopaedics (OA), and Spectrum Medical Group (SMG) are the founding members of the newly formed Maine Specialty IPA, which represents over 250 physicians and other medical providers caring for patients in Southern Maine and across the entire state.  Click here to view press release.

The MMC Simulation Center opened on October 4, 2010 at the MMC-Brighton Campus under the direction of Dr. Randy Darby, Spectrum Anesthesiologist. Dr. Darby's primary role is to grow the Sim program at MMC and provide strategic focus and direction as the Sim industry continues to expand. 2010 Cure Breast Cancer for ME Award

Dr. Michael Jones (Spectrum Pathology Division) has been selected as this year's recipient of the Medical Care & Research Award bestowed upon a healthcare professional that goes above and beyond the call of duty to make a positive contribution to the treatment of breast cancer.

The Award is presented annually to a healthcare professional that increases knowledge / treatment of breast cancer through research or improves patient care, treatment and support through their clinical and non-clinical efforts. Dr. Jones was nominated by a patient that he diagnosed over a decade ago. The patient was particularly struck that Dr. Jones took the time to review her slides with her and she has continued to monitor the ongoing efforts that Dr. Jones has made over the past many years in this area. The Pathology Division has increasingly subspecialized and Dr. Jones is one of a few pathologists that focuses in breast pathology. 

Past Spectrum winners of this award include Dr. Elizabeth Pietras (2005) and Dr. Celine Godin (2007). The awards luncheon is scheduled for Monday, October 4, 2010 at noon. Congratulations to Dr. Jones for his recognition for the dedication and efforts made in this important area of medicine!


David Ahola, MD – Appointed Chief of Radiology at Eastern Maine Medical Center

Dr. David Ahola was appointed interim Chief of Radiology at Eastern Maine Medical Center on May 1, 2010 and became chief on May 26, 2010.  Dr. Ahola joined the Northern Radiology Division of Spectrum Medical Group in 1997.  He obtained his medical training at the University of Minnesota School of Medicine and his residency at Duke University Medical Center.  Dr. Ahola completed his fellowship training in vascular and interventional radiology at the University of Utah Health Sciences Center.

Dr. Ahola previously served as Section Head for CT and Diagnostic Radiology at EMMC.  He also serves as a member of the Northern Radiology Division Advisory Committee.  He and his wife, Brigitte, live in Veazie with their three children.

 


 Congratulations Team Spectrum - Tri for a Cure!

Spectrum Medical Group is proud to be a Determination Sponsor of the third annual Tri for a Cure, supporting the Maine Cancer Foundation. The event took place on Sunday, August 15 at the Southern Maine Community College campus in South Portland.

Spectrum Welcomes New Physicians

Spectrum Medical Group recently added several new physicians to its growing organization.

Silvia Skripenova, MD
, has joined our Pathology Division.   Dr. Skripenova received her medical training at the University of Vermont and did her residency at the University of Utah.  She completed fellowship in gynecologic pathology at Johns Hopkins University.

Also joining the Pathology Division is Tarek Hammour, MD.  Dr. Hammour graduated from the University of Damascus, Syria and completed his residency at Henry Ford Hospital.  He obtained fellowship training in hematopathology at Dartmouth Hitchcock Medical Center.

The Southern Radiology Division has added vascular and interventional radiologist Derek Mittleider, MD to its team.  Dr. Mittleider obtained his medical degree from Louisiana State University Medical School.  He completed his radiology residency at Maine Medical Center and his interventional radiology fellowship at Baptist Cardiac & Interventional Institute.

Brian Livingston, MD also joins the Southern Radiology Division.  Dr. Livingston received his medical training at Dartmouth Medical School and completed his radiology residency program through Maine Medical Center.  He continued with fellowship training in neuroradiology at Beth Israel Deaconness Medical Center / Harvard Medical School.

The Northern Radiology Division welcomes Baharak Bagheri, MD to its practice.  Dr. Bagheri graduated from Tehran University Medical School and completed her radiology residency at Temple University Hospital and Tehran University.  Dr. Bagheri completed three fellowships:  Body CT at University of Munchen, nuclear medicine from Temple University Hospital and Body Imaging/Interventional from St. Paul's Hospital / British Columbia University.

Sarah Laduzenski, MD has joined the Southern Anesthesiology Division.  Dr. Laduzenski received her medical degree from the University of Massachusetts Medical School.  She completed her anesthesiology residency as well as fellowship training in acute pain medicine and regional anesthesiology at the University of Florida.

The Southern Anesthesiology Division also welcomes Brian McAllister, MD.  Dr. McAllister received his medical degree from the University of Vermont and completed his residency training from the University of Utah Health Sciences Center.  His fellowship training in acute pain management and regional anesthesiology was also obtained at the University of Utah Health Sciences Center.

Spectrum Medical Group welcomes the return of Daniel Campos, III, MD, MPH to the Southern Anesthesiology Division.  Dr. Campos joined Spectrum in 1996 and returned to his home state of Texas in 2003.  He completed his medical training at the University of Texas and his residency at Maine Medical Center.  

A warm welcome is extended to our new physicians! 


Farewell Dr. Paul Templeton, Radiology North

Spectrum’s Northern Radiology Division sends best wishes to Dr. Paul Templeton who will be leaving the practice after 17 years of exemplary service.  Dr. Templeton served as the Chief of Radiology at Eastern Maine Medical Center for five years.  We wish Dr. Templeton the best of luck in his new endeavors as he moves closer to his family in Pennsylvania and begins practicing with the Doylestown Radiology Associates in Richlandtown, Pennsylvania.
