Dr. Brown's autographed copy of the July 19, 1999 Sports Illustrated World Cup edition.

"The final of the 1999 FIFA Women's World Cup was an association football match that took place on July 10, 1999 to determine the winner of the 1999 FIFA Women's World Cup. The host United States and China played to a scoreless draw. After extra time, the United States won the match with a 5-4 penalties victory.

The match represented one of the most important events in the history of American athletics. It was played before over 90,000 fans in what remains the largest crowd ever to watch a women's sporting event. The iconic image of Brandi Chastain celebrating the clinching goal that was featured on the cover of Sports Illustrated became one of the defining images of women's athletics in the United States."

Medical Rehabilitation Associates Joins Spectrum Medical Group

Spectrum Medical Group - a physician-owned, multi-specialty practice with over 150 board-certified physicians - announced that Medical Rehabilitation Associates (MRA) has become part of the organization.

The services provided by MRA will form the medical rehabilitation division of Spectrum Medical Group.  The group consists of 11 medical staff, including seven board-certified physiatrists who will offer services in musculoskeletal medicine and electrodiagnostics.

"The addition of the talented medical staff at MRA to the Spectrum team provides both greater depth and breadth to our core services," stated David Landry, chief executive officer of Spectrum Medical Group.  "The combination of our organizations will allow us to provide higher quality and more cost effective services to patients."

MRA, with offices in Lewiston, Brunswick and Rockport, provides pain management and rehabilitation services to patients across mid coast, southern and central Maine.  Their mission is to provide integrated, rehabilitation services that promote physical, behavioral and occupational health.

Douglas Pavlak, MD, president and founder of MRA, welcomed the collaboration as an opportunity to improve organizational effectiveness and the value of the services it provides.  "The quality assurance programs at Spectrum Medical Group are spectacular.  Many of their initiatives are recognized nationwide for their ability to reduce errors and improve efficiency.  Joining their team will allow us to raise the bar in terms of quality delivery and the consolidation of our operations will undoubtedly reduce costs.  This is not only mutually beneficial to the two organizations, but also a "win" for our patients."

Physiatrists are physicians who treat and diagnose conditions affecting muscles, nerves and bones.  The medical services provided by the practice include:  electromyography, medical orthopaedics and sports medicine, osteopathic manipulation, medical acupuncture and pain management evaluations.  MRA currently serves patients with a broad range of conditions, such as acute and chronic neck and back pain, nerve entrapments, occupational injuries, fibromyalgia and arthritis.

Dr. Pavlak will serve as the managing director of the new division and join the Spectrum board of directors.

"The nature of the services offered by MRA intersects with much of the work we're already doing in our various specialty divisions, particularly anesthesiology and interventional radiology," said Landry.  "We will now be able to offer a more complete package to patients who require pain management or rehabilitation from an illness or injury."
