Intrathecal Catheter Placement

Procedure Description:

Intrathecal catheter placement (pumps) may be recommended by your Spectrum physician to help relieve your pain.  Using a tunneled epidural catheter that is placed under the abdomen skin, a pump is used to deliver morphine into the intrathecal space (where fluid flows around the spinal cord).

Patients with chronic pain who have tried intramuscular, intravenous, and/or oral pain medications without acceptable pain relief may be candidates for a pump.

Spectrum works with Medtronic, the world's leading medical technology company, to provide intrathecal pain management.  A Spectrum pain management physician will monitor and manage your care while you are on the pump.
