Lidocaine Challenge
Procedure Description:
Lidocaine is a local anesthetic that can reduce or eliminate nerve pain when given as an infusion in a vein.
Duration
30 minutes for the injection. You will be asked to wait up to an additional 20 minutes after the injection before going home.
Follow-up Care
Do not drive for 2 – 3 hours after the infusion. Monitor the amount of pain you feel using the pain scale of 0 – 10. You should not experience any unusual symptoms. associated with lidocaine because its side effects are minimal. The drug is rapidly eliminated from your body, but the pain relief may persist.
Patient Preparation
Nothing to eat or drink four hours prior to your procedure. You may take your prescribed medications with a sip of water. You must have someone with you to drive you home.
