Coagulation Medicine

Procedure Description:

Coagulation Medicine specializes in understanding the clotting of blood.  A deficiency of clotting leads to an increased risk for bleeding (hemorrhage).  An excessive amount of clotting leads to thrombosis, which includes deep venous thrombosis (leg clots), pulmonary emboli (lung clots), myocardial infarction (heart attack) and some forms of stroke.

A Coagulation Medicine specialist helps to identify abnormalities and disorders in the clotting process and provides advice on treatment.
