Gastrointestinal and Liver Pathology (GI)
Procedure Description:
Gastrointestinal and liver pathology deals with diseases of the digestive system. The esophagus, stomach, duodenum, small bowel, colon and rectum, as well as liver, bile ducts, gallbladder and pancreas are part of this organ complex. Many common diseases and symptoms originate within this system, including reflux, indigestion, abdominal pain, celiac sprue, bleeding, hepatitis, fatty liver, polyps, and cancers of the liver, pancreas, esophagus, stomach, small and large bowel, and bile ducts.
Your treating physician may have taken a small biopsy from your digestive system, or your surgeon may have removed a diseased part of your digestive system. In both cases, expert diagnosis of the specimen by an experienced GI pathologist will help to facilitate the best possible treatment for your disease.
