Hematopathology
Procedure Description:
Hematopatholgy involves the study of diseases affecting the blood, lymph nodes and bone marrow. Common examples of such diseases include leukemia, lymphoma, multiple myeloma, and myelodysplastic syndromes. Accurate diagnosis is the single most important factor in determining treatment strategies, predicting response to newly discovered drugs, and overall prognosis.
As the classification of these disorders is complex and involves integration of numerous modalities (clinical features, tissue biopsy / blood review, flow cytometry, genetic and molecular testing), it’s essential a pathologist with expertise in hematopatholgy renders the final diagnosis. Spectrum Pathology is fortunate to have five patholgists with subspecialty fellowship training in hematopathology, all of whom have experience in interpreting the many different tests required to diagnose, treat, and follow patients with hematologic diseases.
