Transfusion Medicine

Procedure Description:

Transfusion Medicine is concerned with the transfusion of blood and blood components.  A physician trained in Transfusion Medicine typically functions as the medical director of a hospital blood bank and interacts with patients and other physicians to provide expert advice on transfusion-related topics. This may include helping physicians make optimal transfusion decisions and selecting the most compatible blood for a patient. The primary goal is to make the process of transfusion as safe as possible.
