Spectrum Medical Group Loses Valued Physician, Christopher Seitz, MD / 21 March, 2002

(March 19, 2002) The physicians and staff of Spectrum Medical Group, Maine Medical Center, and The Aroostook Medical center were deeply saddened today to learn about the untimely death of one of their physicians, Christopher Brian Seitz, MD. Dr. Seitz, 57 years old, was killed in an avalanche while skiing with his two sons in British Columbia on Monday. No one else was hurt.

Dr. Seitz was a radiation oncologist who cared for thousands of patients during his 25 years in Maine. “This has been a major shock to us and our hearts and condolences are with Dr. Seitz’s family. Dr. Seitz was a highly respected physician and partner in Spectrum Medical Group. The relationships he developed with his patients were among the best, and he had become a close friend to many of us in his peer group. He will be missed by his colleagues and, especially, his patients,” stated Michael Jones, MD, President of Spectrum Medical Group.

Jeffrey Young, MD, Medical Director for Radiation Oncology, expressed similar thoughts. “Dr. Seitz loved his wife, family, patients and the outdoors. He had a rare combination of technical expertise and compassion. He developed innovative radiation techniques and was known to make house calls. Years after being cured, patients would return for the wisdom and encouragement of ‘their doctor.’ He was loved throughout the state.”

Dr. Seitz was a highly respected physician and partner in Spectrum Medical Group. He practiced at Maine Medical Center for twenty-five years and The Aroostook Medical Center for twenty-three years. A memorial service will be held at Woodfords Congregational Church on March 24 at 2:30. Conversation and refreshments will follow in Memorial Hall. In lieu of flowers the family requests that donations be sent to the Dr. Christopher Sietz Memorial Fund - either at The Aroostook Medical Center, Presque Isle, or Maine Medical Center, Portland. The family will use these funds for a lasting tribute to Dr. Seitz within each of these institution's oncology programs.
